MLA does studies and investigations as the need arises. In February 2013 the MLA work was done with the Agricultural Marketing Authority (AMA) to assist in the development of general regulations for contract farming. A report was developed that reviewed international experience in contract farming legislation. This was followed by a survey of companies engaged in contract farming, and a workshop.
In late 2013 the MLA assisted Zimbabwean grain traders in the formation of an association which will provide them with a forum to cooperate and develop a common platform for interaction with other stakeholder groups. The Grain Trader’s Association of Zimbabwe (GOTAZ) became operational in May 2014.
The MLA sends out agricultural news, market prices and other information every second week and, funds permitting, will be developing a coordination database.
